B.K.S. Iyengar (14 December 1918 – 20 August 2014) developed an innovative methodology by which to practice classical hatha yoga. Iyengar yoga emphasizes alignment while developing strength, stamina, flexibility and balance.

 

His first daughter, Geeta Iyengar (7 December 1944 – 16 December 2018), continued his work and contributed specialized techniques for women, for all phases of their lives.

Like her father, Geeta shared how yoga can be used as a method to unify body and mind, and strengthen the respiratory system, circulatory system, nervous system, muscles, epidermis, and the mind.

BKS Iyengar's son, Prashant Iyengar, continues to teach at RIMYI in Pune, India.
